Project Details

The purchaser of 28 ferrous and non-ferrous foundries, machining/finish casting facilities, warehouses, and landfills retained ESI to conduct due diligence site assessments.

This acquisition was an SEC governed leverage buyout.

ESI’s scope of work included evaluating the environmental compliance program at each of the facilities and recommending compliance upgrade requirements in light of current and proposed regulations, with particular attention on air pollution control requirements.

We looked at compliance and remediation issues associated with asbestos; above and underground storage tanks; SPCC plans; water discharges; solid and hazardous waste; air quality; site process operations, and historic environmental studies/reports. A separate report on compliance upgrade, pollution control, and remediation costs was provided for property acquisition price negotiations.

To accommodate the project timeline, we assembled five regionally based site assessment teams throughout the Midwest, Southeast, and Texas, with a centralized report development location to efficiently handle information from teams in the eight states where the properties were located.

In the middle of the project, SEC acquisition approval came several weeks earlier than expected. As a result, we were asked to complete and deliver our reports two weeks early. With the deployment of additional field resources, we were successfully complied with this new deadline.

While conducting the facility inspections, we discovered several additional properties owned by the seller where foundry landfill activities had taken place, resulting in an expansion of our scope of work to evaluate these additional sites. ESI provided recommendations for site management to reduce the likelihood of environmental liabilities.
