Project Details

ESI had overall responsibility for managing environmental compliance and remediation issues arising on this $1.2 billion dollar terminal construction project, the largest in the United States.

Our onsite staff’s responsibilities included design and operation of a 700 gpm contaminated water treatment system to support foundation and utility construction.

We negotiated the environmental requirements of the airport owner’s complicated lease. and were able to successfully argue that costs, for all contaminated soil discovered during construction, were the responsibility of the airport owner and not that of the terminal operator, saving our client over $2 million dollars.

Our personnel implemented a sophisticated baseline soil and groundwater management system backed by GIS mapping for third party cost recovery.

ESI field personnel handled all project oil spills, including response to two jet fuel spills from unidentified contractors for which we designed and operated remediation systems and negotiated closure criteria with NYSDEC.

Forensic oil fuel matching techniques, identified the responsible contractors, enabling cost recovery action.

Our audit of over 250 appurtenances of the jet fuel hydrant fueling system, before the terminal operator assumed responsibility for system integrity, identified multiple leaks, which were the responsibility of third parties to correct.

We eliminated environmentally caused construction schedule delays and significantly reduced the costs and liabilities associated with environmental compliance on this project.
