Remediation Strategy
Phase I Site Investigation
Groundwater/Soil Testing
The former building on the property was demolished in 1993 and the lot has been vacant since that time. The work was conducted to comply with New Jersey Green Acres funding requirements, which requires an evaluation of all USTs in accordance with the NJDEP Site Remediation Programs.
ESI was contracted to conduct a Preliminary Assessment and Phase I of a vacant parcel. ESI identified the potential for existing underground tanks associated with the former structures and performed a GPR survey, which identified a tank. The data indicated that the tank was previously decommissioned.
The tank was excavated and found to be a 550 gallon tank that was filled with sand. The sand was removed from the tank for appropriate offsite disposal and the tank was subsequently removed.
Field observation of the tank showed no evidence of discharge, and lab analysis of soil borings in the tank grave were determined to have no signs of petroleum hydrocarbons or naphthalenes.
The excavation was backfilled with on site fill and the lab results and regulatory reports were submitted for final project closure.
